Armed Forces Day – 29th June
Published 28th June 2024
FSS has a long record of engagement with the armed forces community through pledging, demonstrating and advocating support for those on their way out of the Armed Forces.
Ex-military personnel have become a vital part of our Engineering Team delivering expert engineering services to clients nationwide. We are proud to offer an immersive employment experience and supportive environment at FSS to those taking their first steps into civilian life.
We are members of The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) which supports the Armed Forces, achieving the Bronze Armed Forces Covenant in 2020 and the Silver in 2021.
- 5 out of 14 engineers are ex-forces and we have also previously had ex-forces staff members within our office team. We know about the strengths and benefits that people from the forces bring to the business with their strong work ethic and drive from the get-go.
- We attended Catterick BFRS Careers Fair this year speaking directly to members of the armed forces about what FSS does, how we support ex-forces staff, the benefits of working for FSS, the changes between the style of work – Dave Thorpe spoke about this to those who attended the event and advocated strongly for FSS.
- As a company keen on employee benefits we offer access to the Medicash scheme meaning that, if it is needed, there is support available on hand such as gym membership discount, health & stress support and virtual GP.
- We also donate regularly to the charity, Hull4 heroes, and we do this in memory of Carl Jones who was a senior engineer at FSS and died in service in October 2019. As a result, we introduced a death in service policy for all our team members.
Special mention and thanks go to our ex-military team members Dave Thorpe, Ryan Prendergast, Kieran Wilson, Jon Elwood and Michael Spence.
