Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication at FSS

Published 26th March 2026

A truly special milestone at FSS as we celebrate 20 years of service from our Senior Engineer, Stuart Burton.

In an industry where the typical tenure for an engineer can be as little as 3–4 years, reaching two decades is an extraordinary achievement. Stuart joined FSS as a Field Engineer just four years after the business launched in 2002, and he has played a significant role in the exceptional growth we’ve experienced ever since.

Modest, self-effacing, and a true team player, Stuart is a man of few words; however his actions speak volumes.

Reflecting on the milestone, Stuart shared:

“I remember when I started at FSS and how it was a major jump for me joining a business that was literally new. My early days were spent working with Jonathan Barnett and I have fond memories of times spent out on the road. I’m shocked about the 20 years and my absolute heartfelt thanks goes to all of the Directors in addition to Jonathan –  Katharine Barnett and Vince McCarry. Their support over the years, as well as that of the team, is remarkable. FSS is a true family business.”

There is so much we could say about Stuart, but here are just a few highlights:

🔹 Five years ago, he chose to by-pass retirement and continue working full-time. His motto? “It’s keeping going that keeps you going!”

🔹 He is deeply committed to training, mentoring, and supporting young engineers.

🔹 He embraces continual improvements in Health & Safety, Education, and Compliance – cornerstones of our industry.

🔹 His ‘can do’ attitude means he is always the first to volunteer for overtime, regardless of the job or location.

From Shetland to Belfast, the Isles of Scilly and everywhere in between, Stuart is known and warmly welcomed by customers across the UK. His expertise, dedication, and professionalism have earned him tremendous respect among colleagues and clients alike.

How do you reward someone like Stuart? While we’ll be inviting him to choose a substantial gift in recognition of his service, the greatest reward for us is simply having him continue to do what he does so exceptionally well.

Thank you, Stuart, from all of us at FSS. Your commitment, loyalty, and enthusiasm are truly valued – long may it continue!
